Jamaica Overwater Bungalows – Sandals Resorts Are They Worth it

Jamaica Overwater Bungalows – Sandals Resorts Are They Worth it

Does a Jamaica overwater bungalow sound good to you? You no longer have to travel halfway around the world to stay in an overwater villa.

This type of accommodation used to only exist in the Maldives, Tahiti, and Bora Bora. There are now overwater bungalows in Jamaica at Sandals South Coast and Sandals Royal Caribbean locations, making it much easier to visit coming from the USA.

We have personally stayed in both of these Jamaica overwater bungalows, five nights at each location, to be exact. If you have read some of our other articles, you know we love Sandals Resorts and Jamaica. We were super excited to have overwater bungalows in the Caribbean finally!

There are two resorts in Jamaica with overwater bungalows, and they are both Sandals Resorts properties. They both have similar amenities, and the rooms inside are almost identical. If you are trying to decide which is the best overwater bungalow in Jamaica for you, let’s walk through them both separately.

Here’s everything you need to know about staying in an overwater bungalow in Jamaica at Sandals Resorts.

How Much Do Jamaica Overwater Bungalows Cost?

Well, they aren’t cheap. There is no way of sugar-coating it. The final price will depend on the season and how many nights you’re booking, as there is a higher nightly rate for one or two-night stays and current promotional rates.

On average, you are looking at $3,000 a night per room. To check current rates for your travel dates, click here.

Booking an Overwater Bungalow in Jamaica

Because they are so unique and a bucket list experience for most, they sell out months/years in advance. We suggest checking the available dates on Sandals website here.

Many guests will spend one week at Sandals and split their time into two different room categories. For example, four nights in a traditional room and three nights in an overwater bungalow. This way, they can experience both room types, and with the money they saved the first few nights on the more affordable room, they can splurge on a Jamaica overwater bungalow.

Are Overwater Bungalows worth it?

YES! If you are looking for an unforgettable vacation, there is no better place to stay than in an overwater bungalow.

We have stayed in overwater bungalows in St. Lucia, Jamaica, Thailand, and the Maldives and can say with certainty they are worth every penny.

2 Epic Jamaica Overwater Bungalow Resorts

1. Sandals South Coast Overwater Bungalows

The newest Jamaica overwater bungalows opened in December 2017. There are 12 honeymoon overwater bungalows that form the shape of a heart. This has to be the best-designed overwater bungalow pattern and is perfect for those planning a Jamaica honeymoon.

Sandals South Coast (formerly named Sandals Whitehouse) is one and a half hours from the Montego Bay International Airport. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by your personal butler. The butlers at Sandals Resorts are the best. They want to make sure you have the best vacation of your life. If you are in full vacation mode, let them unpack for you while you explore the 50-acre property.

Both Sandals Jamaica overwater bungalows have the same #Sandalssuite life with 24-hour butler service. You’ll be provided with a smartphone so you can get ahold of your butlers whenever you want.

If you want cookies & ice cream at 1 am, no problem (trust me, I’ve ordered it), breakfast in bed, just text them your order. Whatever you want, they will make it happen. To learn about all the amenities of staying in a Sandal’s overwater bungalow, click here.

Sandals South Coast has the first overwater bar at any of the Sandals Resorts. Latitudes is one of our favorite bars at Sandals South Coast. Head to Latitudes Bar for sunset. There is no better seat in the house for happy hour. Grab a drink and lay back in a hammock over the water to catch Jamaica’s famous sunsets.

The overwater bungalows at Sandals South Coast are located a quick walk down the dock from the white sandy beach. When booking a room, we suggest requesting rooms 6007-6004. They look out straight to the ocean. You’ll have a great view of the sunset. Check prices now and take advantage of one of the best sales of the year.

The other overwater bungalows are good too. They just face the rest of the resort and Latitudes overwater bar. We had a room facing Latitudes, it was still an amazing room, but it could have been a little more private than a bungalow on the otherwise of the heart. When you request a certain room, you are not guaranteed it.

This property is great for those couples who want privacy or are on a honeymoon in Jamaica. It isn’t a rowdy swim-up bar kind of resort. If you’re looking for a lively pool scene, head to Sandals Ochi or stay at St Lucia overwater bungalows at Sandals St. Lucian Grande.

2. Sandals Royal Caribbean Overwater Bungalows

Sandals Royal Caribbean was the first Caribbean overwater luxury bungalow and the first Sandals overwater bungalow property. There are now three. Click here to read about all the Sandals overwater bungalow properties

Sandals Royal Caribbean is located right in Montego Bay and is a quick ride away from the international airport. Which has its pros and cons. Pros are that it is super easy to get to from the airport, and con, you do see and hear airplanes throughout the day.

What makes Sandals Royal Caribbean different from the Sandals South Coast Jamaica overwater bungalows is that it is on a private island.

Seventeen overwater bungalows also form a heart.  This is their only property in which there are five bungalows with private infinity pools. These are called the Honeymoon Villas.

You will have to take a water taxi to go from the overwater bungalows to the main resort. This is available 24/7, and your butler will take care of this whenever you wish to go to land.

Like all Sandals Resort properties, they are adult-only and all-inclusive (18+). The overwater bungalows are very similar at both locations. What makes an overwater villa is the glass floor. Breakfast in bed never looked so good. We love hanging off the end of the bed and watching the fish swim by.

You won’t ever have to leave your room if you don’t want to. The butlers can bring you anything from any of the onsite Sandals restaurants. There is no reason to leave your room when you have everything you could possibly need right at your fingertips.

One day, we didn’t leave our room until 8 pm. We spent the entire day on our deck.
